March – Smart Forecourts & C-Stores

If there is one positive to take away from 2020, it is the adaptability and resilience that the industry has shown. A key part of that has been the speed at which retailers and suppliers have adopted digital solutions. As petrol stations and convenience stores continue to be more connected, interactive and smart, there is growth in efficiency and revenue. We will take a look at all these trends, from digital payments, to new loyalty schemes and e-commerce.

May – Latin America

Since PetrolPlaza started publishing all its news in Spanish and English, there has been an increased interest from the region. In May we will take a look at how the sector has recovered from the different COVID-19 measures, the increasing importance of convenience at petrol stations, the expansion of AdBlue across the region, and much more. The special will include digital roundtables in Spanish.

September – Electric vehicles: Threat or Opportunity?

Despite only representing a tiny fraction of vehicles on the road, electric vehicles are here to stay. With major oil companies such as Shell, Total, Repsol and OMV committing to the technology and making large investments in start-ups and infrastructure, it is now impossible to ignore. The questions are how to make a sound business case for EV charging, when should a retailer invest in charging infrastructure, and who to partner with to do it. We will try to answers these questions by speaking to industry players, retailers and suppliers.

November – Africa

With the world’s largest free trade area and a 1.2 billion-person market, Africa is a hugely promising market that will see the renewal of its car fleets and fueling infrastructure in the coming years. Players such as Puma Energy, Vivo Energy, Engen, Caltex and FreshStop are driving the industry forward. With most countries following global trends around environmental solutions, there is an array of opportunities for equipment suppliers to enter new geographical areas.
